Is Your House Ready for Severe Weather? | SERVPRO® of Pueblo
Let’s be honest—no one wants to think about what could happen if a severe storm hits their home.
While it isn’t a pleasant thought, it’s still smart to plan for the possibility of severe storms. And by doing so, you may be able to help your home and family whether these unexpected events.
Where’s one place to start? By getting your family prepared.
According to Ready.gov, one of the smartest things families can do is be sure there’s a disaster plan in place before you need it.
You can make a plan in just a few hours. Just sit down with your family and talk over what you’ll do in case of severe weather. You’ll want to make sure everyone knows where to gather in the event of the emergency and where your vital records and first-aid kit are located.
Another great way to prepare your family is to download the app for ready.gov on your smartphone. You can find it on their website or your phone’s app store. It will let you know any time there’s a severe weather alert in your area.
Protecting Your Home
The National Weather Service recommends taking a few steps to keep the exterior and interior of your home safe:
Clean out your gutters. Gutters that are full of debris can put your home at risk for water damage.
Trim your trees. Healthy trees with no overhanging branches lower the risk of damage from limbs.
Make sure your home is secure. Loose items should be fastened down or brought inside. Close your doors and windows, too.
